The Big Trip

So that’s it – the out-of-office is now on for 6 whole months…!!!

We’re Fran and Joe Pitkin, newlywed late twenty-somethings, and soon-to-be full time travellers rather than full-time employees! This is exciting. In only a few days time we’re going to be packing our lives into a couple of 60 litre rucksacks and flying to South America.

AND WE CAN’T WAIT!!!

The new Mr and Mrs Pitkin!

We both love travelling and have been really lucky to have had some amazing adventures already, but this is the first time we’ve both taken the plunge and done a serious stint of travelling.

Going to put it out there – neither one of us has kept a diary before (or at least managed to keep one for longer than 3 days) let alone a blog.

BUT we’re going to be optimistic and hopefully we’ll manage to cobble together some posts so you can follow our travels.

So where are we going?

Well at this moment in time, all we have booked are flights to Peru and then flights back to the UK from Mexico, plus a boat trip from Colombia to Panama in December. The rest will be decided along the way!

This will probably be the most spontaneous we’ve ever been on a trip – I, Fran, am a serial planner. I just love planning holidays. I love researching where I want to go and what I want to see (then usually poor Joe just had to agree to go along with it!).

Joe jumping for joy because I’m such a great planner

However, this trip will be different. We have the marvellous gift of time, so we can be flexible and decide where we want to go as we go along. Great!
Although we have 6 months, we actually want to cover quite a bit of ground in that time. We have a rough route mapped out, but we’ll see how we get on and maybe we’ll have to cut some bits out. Let’s go with the flow!

Our Route:

  1. Peru
  2. Bolivia
  3. Chile
  4. Argentina
  5. Ecuador
  6. Colombia
  7. Panama
  8. Costa Rica
  9. Nicaragua
  10. Honduras
  11. Guatemala
  12. Belize
  13. Mexico

13 countries in 6 months. Brave? A bit crazy?

Who knows, all we know is we’re super excited and can’t wait to escape our day jobs do it a while and see a bit of the world. Cheers to that!!
